Movement Meets Mindfulness: How AHI Designed Soul Mvmt at D3 - As Seen in Identity Magazine

In the dynamic landscape of Dubai Design District, Arch Home Interiors was entrusted with a singular vision: to transform a raw commercial space into a boutique Pilates studio interior design that transcends physical training, one where movement and mindfulness meet in a space of quiet, enduring beauty. The result: Soul Mvnt, was featured in Identity Magazine, Issue 256, September 2025.

A Space That Guides, Not Dictates

In the dynamic landscape of Dubai Design District, Soul Mvnt presents itself as a haven of wellness where the disciplines of Lagree (a low-impact, high-intensity reformer-based method that combines elements of Pilates, strength and cardio), yoga, and mat Pilates are brought together under an ethos of minimalist, intentional design. Given full creative freedom by the client, Arch Home Interiors constructed the studio entirely from the ground up: no inherited layout, no existing infrastructure, no template to follow.

The guiding philosophy was one of effortless cohesion. Every spatial decision was made with a singular aim: to guide the client through the studio with a sense of connection that felt instinctive rather than designed. From the moment one steps inside, the journey is carefully orchestrated: from reception, to locker room, to studio floor. The transitions are seamless. The atmosphere, unwavering.

Soul Mvnt’s dual-studio programme presented the central design challenge. The Lagree studio — high-energy, high-volume, anchored by live DJ sets — and the yoga studio — meditative, still, requiring absolute acoustic sanctuary — exist under the same roof. To honour both environments fully, without compromise, demanded a rigorous approach to spatial planning, material selection, and acoustic engineering from the very first concept drawing.

A Material Palette Rooted in Nature and Restraint

The design narrative of Soul Mvnt begins with material choices that speak with quiet authority. In the common areas, microcement was applied across floors and walls in its entirety, creating a seamless, uninterrupted surface of soft, matte texture. It establishes a natural base, one that sets the tone for calm without making a statement of itself. This is the essence of considered wellness space interior design: surfaces that recede, so that the experience within them can come forward.

Joinery throughout the project was crafted in burr wood — a material chosen for its organic movement and warm, tactile richness. No two panels are identical; the natural variation of the grain brings a handcrafted integrity to every built-in element. Where lesser projects might have accepted a standard millwork solution, every piece here was custom designed and bespoke-built. Nothing was sourced from a shelf. Everything was made for this space, and this space alone.

Avalanche marble completes the material triad, appearing at the entrance counter and throughout the bathroom vanities. Its characteristic veining — sweeping and organic — was selected for the same qualities as the burr wood: natural movement, inherent elegance, and a surface that rewards contemplation. Curved edges were specified throughout, softening every transition and reflecting the studio’s broader design language of gentle continuity.

For lighting, brands that reflect the project’s restrained character were selected exclusively. Prado fixtures were chosen for the common areas; wall lighting throughout was sourced from Marset, whose sculptural designs are known for adding presence without demanding it. Atmospheric without being theatrical. Minimal without being cold.

Engineering the Invisible: Acoustic and Structural Complexity

The most considered interiors reveal their depth not in what is seen, but in what is resolved beneath the surface. At Soul Mvnt, two significant technical challenges defined the build: both invisible to the eye, both fundamental to the experience.

Acoustic separation between the Lagree and yoga studios was achieved through a layered system of insulation built into the shared walls and ceilings. The approach addresses both airborne sound — the volume and energy of live music — and structural sound, transmitted through the reformer equipment and the floor itself. Beyond the interior partition, Soul Mvnt occupies a floor within a commercial office building. Additional soundproofing was installed along all perimeter walls and floor plates, ensuring that the studio’s vitality remains entirely contained within it, respectful of the professional environment that surrounds it.

Inside both studios, vinyl gym flooring with acoustic underlay was specified — a material decision that serves the experience as much as the aesthetic. Durable, soft underfoot, and acoustically managed, it was chosen to perform with equal distinction during the intensity of a Lagree session and the stillness of a yoga practice.

The second challenge was foundational in the most literal sense. The space arrived with no drainage infrastructure whatsoever. To realise the bathroom and wet area design, a non-negotiable element of any premium wellness environment, Arch Home Interiors designed and executed a complete drainage system from scratch: planning, structural co-ordination, waterproofing, and installation. It is the kind of technical mastery that separates a design studio from a true full-service commercial fitout partner.

This capacity for end-to-end engineering and build management is a hallmark of the Arch Home Interiors approach, evident across our commercial portfolio. The Completed Studio: Where Mindfulness Takes Form

Upon entering Soul Mvnt, one is greeted by a reception anchored by a sculptural desk in handmade ivory tiles and burr wood, with Avalanche marble detailing that enhances the composition without overwhelming it. A small service bar and integrated retail shelving have been designed to flow naturally within the space — functional elements that present themselves as part of the room, not interruptions to it.

Bathrooms and locker areas carry the same material palette throughout: enhanced in character, resolved in detail, and specified to endure. In a high-use environment such as a fitness studio, the longevity of a finish is as much a design consideration as its appearance. Every surface at Soul Mvnt has been chosen to hold its quality through daily use, sustaining the studio’s sense of refinement from the first day of opening to years beyond it.

The harmonious blend of form and function cultivates a space that inspires physical and mental well-being, transforming each visit into a restorative journey.
